Title: Wheel Bay Technician - Casual contract Business Unit: Glider Maintenance Section Location: RAF Syerston Hours: Casual Contract - Zero contracted hours.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Wheel Bay Technician to join the team at RAF Syerston, Nottinghamshire, and be part of the Glider Maintenance Organisation. The on-going contract is responsible for the provision of Forward and Depth support for the Viking and Vigilant aircraft.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain the Glider Fleet Wheel, Tyre, Brake and Spark Plug Bay.
- Scheduled and corrective maintenance on Viking and Vigilant wheel assemblies.
- Scheduled and corrective maintenance on Viking and Vigilant brake assemblies.
- Scheduled and corrective maintenance of Vigilant spark plugs including testing of the plugs.
- Scheduled and corrective maintenance on Viking and Vigilant aircraft located at RAF Syerston airfield.
- Certification of maintenance within the scope of authorisation approvals held.
- The quality control of aircraft maintenance and associated components, ground equipment, service equipment and documentation relating to the completion of maintenance tasks performed.
- Taking responsibility for the completion of required maintenance tasks in the normal course of his shift duties including the satisfactory and efficient and timely completion of tasks as and when required by the Engineering Supervisor.
- Ensuring that they remain current with all amendments to the company procedures/manuals and all other relevant technical data provided.
Essential Competencies:
- Be a Qualified Aircraft Airframe and/or Propulsion Mechanic/Technician - (City and Guilds Aeronautical Engineering Parts 1 and 2 or NVQ equivalent or higher qualification or a British Glider Associated Inspector).
- Should possess good fault diagnosis skills, demonstrating a thorough understanding of aircraft systems.
- Have experience in civilian industry or Armed Forces in a relevant trade group.
- Hold full driving licence (Class B -maximum of 6 points).
- Display awareness of Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental Issues
Desirable Competencies:
- Have been previously employed within a Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Organisation.
- Have working knowledge of military or civilian aircraft maintenance documentation and publications.
- Be IT literate
Please note, this is a Casual Contract - the successful candidate will not have any specific contracted hours, but will be requested to work as and when required. The post is limited to a maximum of 20 hours per week.
